Whenever I try to run some game, I can see only a black screen.
This can have several reasons:
  A) Most likely you need to install or update Java on your computer. For the latest version of Java for free, visit: www.java.com.
  B) If you already have the latest version of Java, try the following:
    1) Open the ‘Control Panel’.
    2) Click on ‘Java’.
    3) Select the ‘Advanced’ tab.
    4) Click the ‘Default Java for Browsers’.
    5) Select all browsers.
    6) Click ‘Apply’ and then ‘OK’.
    7) Restart the browser.
    8) Return to RetroGames.cz and start the game again.
  C) If the above does not help, it is possible that your browser for some reason banned using of Java. (Especially Firefox do this very often.) In such case you can enable it in the menu Tools / Add-ons Manager (Ctrl + Shift + A) by enabling ‘Java (TM) Platform’ and ‘Java Deployment Toolkit’.
  D) If you are sure that your Java installation and setup are fine, try to restart Java in Task Manager (Ctrl + Alt + Del) by turning off jave.exe in the Processes tab and reload the page with the game.

Security setting blocks running of Java applications. What can I do?
This is a common problem, particularly after each update of Java. The problem can be solved by two ways. You can either decrease the level of security settings so that your computer will not block unsigned Java applets, or you can add RetroGames.cz to the Exception Site list.

Reduction of security settings:
   1) Open the Control Panel.
   2) Select ‘Java’.
   3) Select the ‘Advanced’ tab.
   4) Find ‘Mixed code’.
   5) Select ‘Enable - Hide warning and run with protections’.
   6) Restart browser and start the game again.

Adding RetroGames.cz to the Exception Site list:
   1) Open the Control Panel.
   2) Select ‘Java’.
   3) Click on the ‘Security’ tab.
   4) Click on the ‘Edit Site List’ button.
   5) Click the ‘Add’ in the Exception Site List window.
   6) In the empy line, type ‘http://www.retrogames.cz’.
   7) Click ‘OK’ to save the URL that you entered.
   8) Click ‘Continue’ on the Security Warning dialog.
   9) Restart browser and start the game again.

I cannot control the game. Why?
Make sure that you have activated an applet, in which the game is running by clicking the mouse on it. If you open another browser window during the game, the applet becomes inactive and you have to click on it again if you want to continue in playing the game.

The games are running very slowly.
Check if you do not run other java applet in some another browser window. If so, turn it off. If not, and the game is still slow, quit all running programs you do not need, and restart the game by reloading the page with java applet. However, it is also possible that the power of your computer is not sufficient to correctly emulate selected game.

When some game is turned off, the sound gets stuck. Why?
This can really happened due to beta versions of emulators (SNES, Game Boy, Genesis), that are used by RetroGames.cz. As a best prevention we recommend to turn off the sound (right-click over the Game Boy and Genesis emulator settings) or to stop the game by pressing Start (SNES) before leaving the page with the game. However, if you have turned off the game and the sound is stuck, you can solve this problem through the Task Manager (Ctrl + Alt + Delete) by turning off jave.exe in the Processes tab.

The voting for individual games does not work.
In order to maintain maximum objectivity, only votes of those users who have enabled cookies are recorded. If you have cookies disabled, vote will not work for you. In order to avoid voting by search engines only votes that will come later than 5 seconds and no later than one hour after loading the game page are counted.

I did not found here my favorite game from my childhood. Why?
This can have many reasons. Here is a list of few of them:
1) All games on RetroGames.cz are at least 15 years old. If your game is younger, you will not find it here.
2) The game is older than 15 years, but we do not own their original (cartridge, floppy disks, original game console with built-in game, ...) All the games you find here are legal copies of original games of which we are the legal owner. (See our declaration.) If you have an original game you want to publish here, please contact us via e-mail.
3) The game is older than 15 years and we own the original ROM, but we still did not have time to publish it here. In such case, please be patient. The game will be here sooner or later. .

Is it possible to download games from this website?
Yes, but only games that are no longer actively supported by their manufacturers. Games, that are still possible to buy, you cannot download, but you can come back any time and play them here online.

Is this website legal?
Yes. RetroGames.cz emulates only those consoles whose patents are now invalid. (The validity of a patent is 20 years.) Last patents protecting individual consoles expired in those years: Atari 2600 (2003), NES (2007), Sega Master System (2009), Sega Genesis (2010), Game Boy (2010 ) and SNES (2011). This means that the emulation of these consoles is completely legal. No other console, the server currently emulates. All online games that are available are legal copies of original games that we physically own. For download we offer only abandonware, i.e. abandoned software that copyright owners does not support anymore. Server works as a kind of virtual library, where you can come and temporarily borrow the game in the RAM memory of your computer. When you close the applet or the browser window, the game will be automatically deleted.
