Summary:
THESE PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS APPLY TO THE AURORA CLASS OF SPACE CRUISERS, PRODUCED ON THE PLANET VULCAN BETWEEN THE YEARS 2169 & 2173 (TERRA).
The basic design prototype of what is now the Aurora class of spaceships was introduced in 2163(Terra) by the planet Vulcan. Produced in very limited numbers and in a slightly altered form, (different engines and consequently a different pylon assembly), the vessels were originally intended for use as interplanetary shuttles only. However, their adaptability was recognized by Federation engineers based on Vulcan, and plans were quickly drawn up to adapt them for use as other than interplanetary vessels. Eventually, they became the now-familiar, 6-person space cruisers that are very often assignedto starbases.
Original production of this modified cruiser model began on Vulcan, and continued for about four terran years(2169-2173). Production operations then started within the Sol system, and both Star Fleet Division and the Luna-based DuoTechnico Industries began turning out various models. In 2180 (Terra), production of the MK-11 Aurora class finally ceased. A total of 237 ships were produced, and of these, there were 34 variations on the basic design. 160 of the vessels were used by Star Fleet in various semi-military roles (primarily as shuttles) until very recently. Many are still stationed at various Fleet installations, but none ore expected to be used again. The remaining 77 ships were either retained by their manufacturers as test articles, or sold to private institutions, industries or individuals.
This class is believed to be on its "last leg" of service, and is due to be phased-out very soon. With the recent updates in Fleet standards, the Aurora are simply no longer cost-effective or efficient in their operation. With all salvageable parts removed, many will be retired to the Fleet firing ranges. The remainder may be offered for sale at private auction.
TECHNICAL DATA- AUR217CD AURORA CLASS
(1) Control reactor on warp engines of Aurora class.spaceships is interior, not exterior as on other models.
(2) The "Entry/Exit Door" swings down 90°and becomes part of the floor.
(3) Entry/Exit section is equipped with a collapsable ladder/stairway that extends to ground level when opened. This is used when me ship lands on a planet or at an installation that is not equipped with extendable boarding facilities.
(4) Landing pad and support leg assembly illustrated is one of three types available. All are retractable.
(5) Landing pods for the ground contact points of the support pytons are optional.
(6) Lighting, air vent, piping a electricol details are not illustrated. For diagrams of these aspects, consult the construction drawings of the specific model.
