AUTHOR NOTES:
The USS Tempest was born years ago, out of the idea of upgrading the existing Miranda Class vessel into something with a little more "teeth"...a Pit Bull with warp engines, your grandmother with a 50 cal machine gun. Considering not a lot of canon information was released for film and television, for this ship, aside from it's sporadic appearances in TV and movies, I wanted to give this ship a history. I wanted to create a refit of this ship, outside of just a CD player, reclining bucket seats and a new paintjob. After scouring the net for ideas, I came across a miscellaenous, non-canon ship design that had a rather large weapons pod on it. I was instantly struck with an idea to place a similar pod atop my vessel and get rid of the pop gun that existed for the Miranda. Sure, it had phaser canons, flanking her sides but that rollbar with the pop gun just seemed a little underpowered...at least for the history this ship needed. See, a lot of things happened from the time Kirk almost got his behind handed to him by the merciless Khan to much much later in the Trek timeline. Lest we forget the trouble we had with the Romulans and of course, our relationship with the Klingons wasn't exactly cozy yet, so the Starfleet needed "teeth", despite it going against the very foundation and principles the UFP had established.
Yes, it's a fictional "what if" scenario, so please don't bombard me with corrections and nasty statements about how it's all wrong. There's an old phrase that states: "the Devil is in the details", so I spared no expense with that. These 25 or so sheets are colmination of years if design, redesign, research, pure thought, wacky brainstorms and a sprinkle of common sense. In the end though, I am satisfied with how it all came together. She's not Minute Rice perfect, but pretty close. My intent is to present to the viewing public a detailed tour of the Tempest. There are some standard views left out, which I will get to at some point. I've been a one-man show all this time, so I have to wear the hats of a designer, researcher, QA/QC and publicist...remind me I need to pay myself at some point.
I do hope you enjoy these plans just as much as I did making them. Let me know what you think, good or bad, I can take it. This is all being presented for free, as it was intended, and if you feel the need to give me something...Oatmeal Scotchies, I LOVE Oatmeal Scotchies. :)
