DOS Palmtop: NEC MobileGear MC-MK11 Details and specs

NEC MobileGear MC-MK11

About this machine:

Actually this is the small brother of the NEC MC-MK12. Same specs, just less RAM and they removed the fax receiving and Dialup E-mail functions which is a bit lame since technically it's the same machine. And since it is pretty much "a normal DOS machine" i bet some people made custom programs to receive fax or send email. Besides that same machine, so read the MC-MK12 and MC-MK32 articles if you want to hear my thoughts about this series in detail.

Pros:
- Really nice keyboard
- Fast Processor
- Built-in modem

Cons:
- Pretty incompatible graphics mode
- Power management is not that bad, but the 486 sucks it empty pretty fast if you use it a lot.

Collector Value:
8 of 10

Usage Value:
2 of 10

Verdict:
Cool specs, but the incompatible graphics and the Japanese software make it rather useless, even though it's a nice collector's piece. Pretty rare since at the same day NEC released the MC-MK12 which is the same model with more RAM (2MB) and features for just 9000 Yen (around 90 USD) more, so most people probably got the better model.
