CD-3450 (420-5042) Operation Faxback Doc. # 7861 PLAYING A CD Your CD player can play standard 5-inch or 3-inch CDs that have this mark on them: Caution: This CD player has a wide dynamic range. If you turn up the volume too high during soft parts of the music, you might damage your headphones or speakers when a sudden loud passage occurs. Therefore, set your audio system or car stereo's volume to the minimum level before you play a CD. After the CD begins to play, slowly increase the volume. 1. Set VOLUME to its minimum setting. 2. Set POWER ON/OFF to ON. 3. Press OPEN and lift the disc cover. 4. Carefully place the CD, label side up, over the disc compartment's center hub. Press down slightly on the CD until it clicks and lies flat in the compartment. 5. Close the disc compartment cover. The display alternately shows the total number of tracks and the total playing time. 6. Press PLAY/PAUSE. Track 1 begins to play and the display shows the current track number. Press MEMORY/TIME to display the current track's elapsed time. Press MEMORY/TIME again to display the current track number. 7. Adjust the volume to a comfortable listening level according to these guidelines: If you connect headphones, amplified speakers, a CD-to-cassette adapter, or your car stereo's LINE IN jack to the CD player's PHONES jack, set VOLUME on the CD player to the desired level. If you connect the player's LINE OUT jack to amplified speakers, your home audio system, or your car stereo's CD INPUT jack, set the desired volume using the volume controls on those units. 8. To enhance the bass sound, set E-BASS OUT/IN to IN. 9. When the last track finishes playing, the CD player automatically stops. To stop playing the CD before it ends, press STOP/CLEAR. INTRO SCAN The intro scan feature lets you listen to the first 10 seconds of each track on a CD. 1. Press PLAY/PAUSE to start play. 2. Press PLAY MODE repeatedly until INTRO appears on the display. Intro scan starts from the first track. To end intro scan, press PLAY MODE. INTRO disappears from the display and the CD player resumes normal play with the track currently playing. AUDIBLE SEARCH Use audible search during play to rapidly search forward or backward to locate a specific section of a track. During audible search, the CD plays at a lower volume and higher speed. The current track's elapsed time appears on the display. To search forward, press RIGHT ARROW. To search backward, press and hold LEFT ARROW. Release the button to resume normal play. Note: If you are holding down RIGHT ARROW when the last track plays, then audible search starts again at the beginning of that same track. SKIP/SEARCH You can use skip/search before or during regular or programmed play to quickly locate any track on a CD. During play, press LEFT ARROW to return to the beginning of the current track. Before the track starts to play, press LEFT ARROW again to return to the beginning of the previous track. The track begins playing. To move to the beginning of the next track press RIGHT ARROW. PAUSE AND CUE Pausing a Track To temporarily stop play, press PLAY/PAUSE. II flashes on the display. Press PLAY/PAUSE again to resume play. Cueing a Track You can also use PLAY/PAUSE to cue a track for play at a later time. When the CD player is stopped, press RIGHT ARROW or LEFT ARROW to display the track you want to cue. Then press PLAY/PAUSE twice. II flashes on the display. To cue a track in a programmed sequence, press PLAY/PAUSE twice when the CD player is stopped. II flashes on the display. Then press RIGHT ARROW or LEFT ARROW to display the track you want to cue. To play the cued track, press PLAY/PAUSE. REPEAT PLAY Your CD player can repeat a single track, the entire CD, or a programmed sequence. To repeat a single track - before or during play, press PLAY MODE once so CIRCLED LEFT ARROW and 1 appear on the display. At the end of the track, the CD player repeats the same track. To repeat an entire CD or a series of programmed tracks - before or during regular or programmed play, press PLAY MODE twice so CIRCLED LEFT ARROW alone appears on the display. When the player reaches the end of the CD or the programmed sequence, it returns to the first track and replays all tracks. RANDOM PLAY In random play, the CD plays all the tracks once in random order, then automatically stops. Press PLAY MODE repeatedly until RANDOM appears on the display to start random play. Notes: If you press PLAY MODE during play, the CD plays the tracks in random order starting at the end of the track currently playing. If you press PLAY MODE before play, the CD plays the tracks in random order as soon as you press PLAY. To cancel random play, press PLAY MODE until no indicator appears. PROGRAMMED PLAY You can program up to 20 tracks on a CD to play in any order you choose, and program the same track to play more than once. Make sure a CD is not playing, then follow these steps. 1. Press MEMORY/TIME. The program number (0 1) and the track number (0 0) appear as MEMORY flashes on the display. 2. Press RIGHT ARROW or LEFT ARROW to display the number of the track you want to program. 3. Press MEMORY/TIME to store the selected track number. The program number on the display advances by one and the track number returns to 0 0. 4. Repeat Steps 2 and 3 to program up to 20 tracks. Note: If you try to store more than 20 tracks in memory, FULL appears on the display. To play the programmed sequence, press PLAY/PAUSE. MEMORY lights steadily and the first track in the sequence plays. While you play the programmed sequence, you can use RIGHT ARROW to move forward or LEFT ARROW to move backward to other tracks in the sequence. Checking, Adding to, or Clearing the Programmed Sequence To check the programmed sequence, press MEMORY/TIME after you stop the CD player. The display shows the number of the first programmed track. Each time you press MEMORY/TIME, the display shows the number of the next track in sequence. To add to the end of the programmed sequence, stop the CD player and press MEMORY/TIME until track number 0 0 appears on the display. Then follow Steps 2 and 3 in the previous section. To clear the programmed sequence from memory, either press STOP/CLEAR CLEAR after you stop the CD player, press OPEN, or set POWER ON/OFF to OFF. MEMORY disappears from the display. (br/all-10/20/94)
