CTR-66 (140-1151) Tape and Recorder Tips Faxback Doc. # 7740 PREVENTING ACCIDENTAL ERASING Cassettes have two erase-protection tabs to prevent accidentally erasing a previous recording. 1. To use the erase-protection features, break off the plastic tab with a screwdriver. There is a tab for each side. Be sure you break off the correct tab. 2. To allow recording on that cassette, put a piece of tape over the hold where you broke off the tab. CAUTION: If you insert a cassette with the tabs broken off, do not try to force down RECORD. You can damage the recorder mechanism. ERASING TAPES If you record on a previously recorded tape, you replace the old recording with the new. However, if you want to erase all or part of a recording without recording new material, follow these steps. 1. Insert the supplied dummy plug into the MIC jack. 2. Press RECORD. As the tape moves, it is erased. The microphone does not pick up any sound when the dummy plug is in the MIC jack. 3. Press STOP/EJECT and unplug the dummy plug after erasing. CLEANING THE RECORDER To ensure good recording and playback results, clean the recorder's tape- handling parts after every 20 hours of operation. Failure to do so cn result in poor sound, improper auto-stop function, and serious tape wrap- ups. Follow these steps to clean your recorder, or, for even faster cleaning, use Radio Shack's head cleaner cassette. 1. With power supplied to the recorder, the cassette removed, and the cassette compartment door up, press PLAY. 2. Clean the exposed record/play head and the rubber pinch roller with a cotton swab moistened with denatured alcohol (not rubbing alcohol) or with a special head cleaning fluid, available from your Radio Shack store. 3. After cleaning, press STOP/EJECT. DEMAGNETIZING THE RECORDER You should demagnetize the record/play head after 10 each hours of use. Use the Radio Shack's tape-head demagnetizer or a cassette demagnetizer tape. CAUTION: Do not demagnetize the erase head. Doing so can impair the erasing operation of the head's permanent magnet.
