CLEANING THE TAPE HANDLING COMPONENTS

Dirt or particles of the tape coating can accumulate on the tape heads and
the other parts that the tape touches as it moves.  This material can
greatly reduce the performance of your unit, so you should clean these
parts over 20 hours of operation.

1.  Remove the batteries from the recorder.

2.  Press STOP/EJECT to open the cassette compartment door.

3.  Press PLAY.  The tape head/motion assembly moves forward.  Use a
    cotton swab dipped in cleaning fluid or denatured alcohol to clean the
    parts.  You can find a selection of cleaning supplies at your local
    Radio Shack store.

CAUTION:  Never touch the front surface of the record/playback head with
          any metallic object.

Your CTR-73 is an example of superior design and craftsmanship.  The
following suggestions will help you care for your new cassette recorder so
you can enjoy it for years.

    Keep the cassette recorder dry.  If it does get wet, wipe it dry
    immediately.  Liquids might contain minerals that can corrode the
    electronic circuits.

    Use and store the cassette recorder only in normal temperature
    environments.  High temperature extremes can shorten the life of
    electronic devices, damage batteries, and distort or melt plastic
    parts.

    Handle the cassette recorder gently and carefully.  Dropping it can
    damage circuit boards and cases and can cause the cassette recorder to
    work improperly.

    Keep the cassette recorder away from dust and dirt, which can cause
    premature wear of parts.

    Wipe the cassette recorder with a damp cloth occasionally to keep it
    looking new.  Do not use harsh chemicals, cleaning solvents, or strong
    detergents to clean the unit.

    Use only fresh batteries of the recommended size and type.  Always
    remove old or weak batteries.  They can leak chemicals that destroy
    electronics circuits.

Modifying or tampering with the cassette recorder's internal components
can cause a malfunction and might invalidate the product's warranty.  If
your cassette recorder is not performing as it should, take it to your
local Radio Shack store for assistance.
