The following suggestions will help you care for the TAD so you can enjoy it for years. Keep the TAD dry. If it gets wet, wipe it dry immediately. Liquids might contain minerals that can corrode the electronic circuits. Use and store the TAD only in normal temperature environments. Temperature extremes can shorten the life of electronic devices and distort or melt plastic parts. Handle the TAD gently and carefully. Dropping it can damage circuit boards and cases and can cause the TAD to work improperly. Keep the TAD away from dust and dirt, which can cause premature wear of parts. Wipe the TAD with a damp cloth occasionally to keep it looking like new. Do not use harsh chemicals, cleaning solvents, or strong detergents to clean the TAD. Use only a fresh battery of the recommended size and type. Always remove an old or weak battery. It can leak chemicals that can destroy electronic circuits. Modifying or tampering with the TAD's internal components can cause a malfunction and might invalidate the TAD's warranty and void your FCC authorization to operate it. If the TAD is not operating as it should, take it to your local Radio Shack store for assistance. If the trouble is harming the phone lines, the telephone company might ask you to disconnect the TAD until you have resolved the problem. CLEANING THE TAPE HEADS Inspect and clean the tape heads about once a month. Your local Radio Shack store sells tape-head cleaning kits for this purpose. To clean the tape heads, press STOP/TIME and remove both cassettes. Then dip a cotton swab's tip in cleaning solution and gently clean the tape heads, capstans, and pinch rollers. Never use a chemical not approved for tape-head cleaning, and never touch the head's surface with your fingers or any sharp, metal object THE FCC WANTS YOU TO KNOW In the unlikely event that your TAD causes problems on the telephone line, the telephone company can disconnect your service. The telephone company attempts to notify you in advance. If advance notice is not practical, the telephone company notifies you as soon as possible and advises you of your right to file a complaint with the FCC. Also, the telephone company can make changes to its lines, equipment, operations, or procedures that could affect the operation of this TAD. The telephone company notifies you of these changes in advance so you can take the necessary steps to prevent interruption of your telephone service. LIGHTNING The TAD has built-in protection circuits to reduce the risk of damage from surges in telephone and power line current. These protection circuits meet or exceed the FCC requirements. However, lightning striking the telephone or power lines can damage the TAD. Lightning damage is not common.
