Installing the Internal 32K RAM 

IMPORTANT NOTE: The manual states that "you can expand the RAM by adding a
                32K RAM chip for a total of 54K of internal text memory."
                This statement is vague and gives the impression that you
                can create documents as large as 54K in size.  In reality,
                however, the purpose of the 32K RAM chip is for file
                storage only (referred to as the RAM DISK), and DOES NOT
                increase working memory.  Documents are still limited to
                the 22K working memory, and  can be copied to the 32K RAM
                DISK chip.
                
       
1.  If there are any important documents in memory that needs to be saved
print out the document or save to tape for future reference. Installing the
chip usually requires resetting of the unit.

2.  Remove the back plate of the WP-2 and locate socket IS1.

3.  Insert the chip matching up the U shaped notch of the chip with that
of the socket. The socket is 32 pin and the chip is 28 pin, the circuit
board is marked for both a 32 and 28 pin chip, place the chip in the area
marked for the 28 pin chip.  Some chips may not have a U notch on the chip.
Insert these chips to where the lettering on the chip matches the same
direction as the lettering of the other chips on the WP-2's circuit board.

4.  Replace the back plate of the WP-2.

5.  Turn the Memory protect switch on the side to ON.

6.  Enter a new filename (enter) (enter)

6.  Press "F2 =" for the FILES menu.

7.  Highlight RAM DISK from the menu.

8.  Press "F1 F" together (this is to format the Ram Disk).

9.  Answer Y for yes

The Ram disk is now ready to use.

To copy a document to the Ram disk,

1. Press F2 = 
2. Highlight Memory and press enter
3. Select the document to copy
4. Press F1 C to copy    ( a second menu will appear)
5. Highlight RAM Disk from the menu and press Enter.

The document is now copied.

If the document does not copy after installing the RAM disk chip, then you
will need to reset the WP-2 by using a small tipped pin or paper clip
pressed into the small hole on the back of the WP-2 marked RESET.  Also, by
pressing CTRL-F2-DEL at the same time will also reset the WP-2.  Then go
through the steps to format the wp-2 again starting with step 5. 

NOTE: You cannot retrieve a document from the RAM disk directly for viewing
and/or editing, it must be copied back to memory first.
