Consult your computer owner's manual for the location of your computer's
serial port. If your serial port has a 25-pin female connector, you will need
a DB-9 to DB-25 adapter (260-1388). If your serial port has a 25-pin male
connector, you will need an RS-232 gender adapter (260-1495) in addition to
the DB-9 to DB-25 adapter. To keep these connectors from coming loose, fasten
the connectors together with appropriate size screws.

1. Rotate the ring door on the bottom of the Mouse so that the arrow points
   to "O", and remove the small sponge packing material. Replace the ring
   door so that the arrow points to "C."

2. Plug the connector into your computer's serial port.

If you have two serial ports, you can plug the mouse connector into either
one. The mouse software automatically initializes the correct port.

3. Place the mouse on a flat surface such as a table or desktop.

Place a mouse pad (260-0237) or a sheet of paper between the flat surface and
the mouse.

INSTALLING THE SERIAL MOUSE SOFTWARE

Before you can use the mouse, your operating system needs instructions on how
to handle data the mouse generates. The system gets these instructions from
three programs that are on your system disks: MOUSE.SYS, MOUSE.COM, and
CPANEL.COM. If you have two diskettes for your system, the mouse files are on
the Supplemental Programs diskette. Otherwise, the mouse files are on your
MS-DOS/GW-BASIC diskette. If your diskettes do not contain these files,
contact your local Radio Shack store to obtain up-to-date diskettes.

There are two ways to install the mouse files: from the keyboard each time
you are going to operate the mouse, or automatically at starting up the oper-
ating system.

KEYBOARD METHOD

Be sure that the MOUSE.COM file is on the diskette you are now using. Then,
type:

    mouse [ENTER]

AUTOMATIC METHOD

First, use the DIR command to see if your startup diskette contains a file
named CONFIG.SYS. If the file is on your startup diskette, type:

    copy config.sys + con config.sys [ENTER]
    device = mouse.sys [ENTER]
    [F6] [ENTER]

If the file is not on your startup diskette, type:

    copy con config.sys [ENTER]
    device = mouse.sys [ENTER]
    [F6] [ENTER]

Use this same procedure to install the mouse driver on any startup diskette,
but type the lines only once for each diskette. Be sure each diskette has the
MOUSE.SYS file.

Once you have loaded the mouse driver (either from the keyboard or from the
CONFIG.SYS file), it stays in your computer's memory and you need not load it
again. Now you are ready to load and run an application program that uses the
mouse.

MOUSE SENSITIVITY SETTING (Use of CPANEL.COM)

After installing and using you mouse, you might want to adjust its sensitiv-
ity level (the ration of mouse movement to the mouse pointer movement). the
CPANEL.COM program lets you do this. To initialize CPANEL from the keyboard,
type:

    cpanel [ENTER]

You can also select to automatically load CPANEL every time you boot your
system. To do this, first use the DIR command to determine if your startup
diskette contains an AUTOEXEC.BAT file.

If the diskette DOES contain the file, type:

    copy autoexec.bat + con autoexec.bat [ENTER]
    cpanel [ENTER]
    [F6] [ENTER]

If the diskette DOES NOT contain the file, type:

    copy con autoexec.bat [ENTER]
    cpanel [ENTER]
    [F6] [ENTER]

Once you have loaded CPANEL (either from the keyboard or from the AUTO-
EXEC.BAT file), it stays in your computer's memory and you should not load it
again, doing so reduces the amount of memory and environment space you have
available to your computer.

Since the CPANEL program is in the computer's memory, you can use it at 
anytime as long as the computer is in the character (or text) mode, even
while you're running other programs. Press [CTRL] [ALT] and, while holding
down these keys, press either mouse button. The CPANEL display appears on
your screen.

The position of the block marker and the number below the sensitivity bar
indicate the current sensitivity level. To change the sensitivity level, move
the mouse pointer to either the right or left arrow (triangle) and click the 
left mouse button. This moves the sensitivity marker by increments of five.
To move the marker continuously, press and hold the left mouse button. As you
move the marker, the value representing the current sensitivity level
changes.

Alternately, you can place the mouse pointer on top of the marker, hold down
the left mouse button, and drag the marker in the desired direction. In this
case, the sensitivity marker moves by increments of ten.

You can also return to the sensitivity setting the mouse had before you last
activated CPANEL by clicking on the Reset box. To save changes and exit
CPANEL, move the mouse pointer to the OK box and click the left mouse button.
If you want to quit CPANEL without saving the changes, click on the Cancel
box.

NOTE: You might not be able to activate CPANEL ([CTRL] [ALT] and a mouse
button) from within some application programs. Activate CPANEL before enter-
ing these applications if you need to change the mouse sensitivity.
