ETHERNET PLUS-16 Adapter (260-5508) Installation Faxback Doc. # 5163 The "Quick Installation" section is designed for those users who are experi- enced in the installation and configuration of LAN adapters. If you require more detailed guidance or information, refer to "Configuration and Installa- tion," which follows. The adapter can be installed in any available 8-bit or 16-bit computer expan- sion slot. Sixteen-bit memory access provides the best performance. Before beginning installation, check the adapter's default I/O base address, IRQ level, and RAM base address to make sure that they don't conflict with anot- her option board that cannot be changed. 1. Set the configuration jumper. The jumper at W1 will set the adapter's I/O base address, IRQ level, and on-board shared memory base address (RAM). * If you can use the default values--I/O Register range 280-29F, IRQ3, and shared RAM D0000-D3FFF--there is no need to change the jumper setting at W1. 2. St the ROM jumper (W2) and install the boot ROM if you are using one. The jumper should be set to NONE/SOFT if you are not using a ROM device. * Refer the "Configuration and Installation" section for more information on Steps 1 and 2. * For more information on installing the boot ROM, refer to "Installing a Boot ROM." 3. Install the adapter in the computer. 4. Connect the cables. * For more information on cable connection, refer to "Network Interconnec- tions." 5. Check the adapter and cable installation by running the diagnostic program DIAGNOSE on the software diskette. * For more information on running the DIAGNOSE program, refer to the "Troubleshooting" section. 6. Install the network software. This involves loading one or more network programs onto both the server to be addressed and a specific workstation. * If an optional ROM was installed on the adapter, you might need to prepare the network software for ROM operation. Once these steps are completed, you can reset your computer and access the network through your Ethernet adapter. (css 08/03/93)
