Insert the drive into the drive platform, and attach the drive to the platform as shown, using three machine screws. 4. Attach the drive platform to the drive tower by sliding the plat- form forward along the top of the drive tower until the tabs (not shown) on the bottom of the drive are engaged. 5. Install the two screws (previously removed) to secure the drive platform to the chassis. If the computer does not contain an on-board SmartDrive interface, install a SmartDrive adapter. Refer to the adapter installation guide for instructions, and then continue at the "Completing the Installation" section of this document. TYPE B CHASSIS, 5 1/4" DRIVE BAY To install a drive in a 5 1/4" drive bay of a computer with a Type B chassis, follow these steps: 1. Attach the mounting brackets required for installing the drive in a 5 1/4" drive bay. 2. Determine which 5 1/4" drive bay you will be using: If the drive is the first hard disk drive in the system, you will install it in the lower 5 1/4" drive bay. If the drive is the second hard disk drive, you will install it in the upper 5 1/4" drive bay. 3. Remove the drive rails from the drive tower. 4. Using four machine screws, attach the drive rails and metal grounding clips to the drive frame as illustrated. 5. If the first and second hard disk are both SmartDrives, be sure the jumpers on the drives are set as indicated in Faxback Document # 5061, "Smartdrive Settings". 6. Slide the drive into the 5 1/4" drive bay until the rails lock into place. 7. If the computer does not contain an on-board SmartDrive interface, install a SmartDrive adapter. Refer to the adapter installation guide for instructions, and then continue at the "Completing the Installation" section of this document. INSTALLATION IN A TYPE C CHASSIS In the Type C chassis, the SmartDrive can be installed in either the upper or lower 5 1/4" drive bay. For easy drive installation into the lower drive bay of a Type C chassis, you can remove the drive tower as follows. (Removing the drive tower is not necessary for mounting a drive in the upper 5 1/4" drive bay). 1. Note the location of any cables attached to the internal drives, and then disconnect the cables. 2. Detach the CMOS RAM battery from the Velcro strip on the side of the drive tower. Do not disconnect the battery. 3. Remove the four screws that secure the tower to the bottom of the computer chassis and the three screws that secure the tower to the front of the chassis. 4.
