Remove the supplied ribbon cassette from its protective bag. Then, follow 
these steps to install the ribbon cassette.

1. Press in both sides of the carriage cover and remove it as shown.

2. Insert a coin into the ribbon feed slot and turn it in the direction of
   the arrow to take up any slack.

3. Slide the print head to the center of the carriage.

4. Thread the ribbon between the print head and ribbon guide, and slide
   the ribbon cassette into the cassette holders. Then, slide the cassette
   to the left until it snaps into place.

5. Insert a coin into the ribbon feed slot and turn it about five times to 
   make sure the ribbon moves freely in the cassette.

6. Replace the carriage cover.

When the print becomes light, replace the ribbon cassette with a standard 
black ribbon cassette (26-2878). When you replace the cassette, note the 
following:

* To prevent damage to the print head and platen, be sure the printer is 
  turned off before you remove the carriage cover. Be sure the AC power
  cord is unplugged and a battery holder is not installed.

* Do note touch the print head immediately after printing. It is HOT.

* To remove an old ribbon cassette, slide it to the right. Then pull it
  away from the printer.
