DMP 310 (260-2876) Battery Holder Faxback Doc. # 4702 To operate the DMP 310 from battery power, you must install two rechargeable, nickel-cadmium batteries (Radio Shack Cat. No. 23-230) into this battery holder. You must first charge the batteries with a special battery charger, such as Cat. No. 23-231. Charging the Batteries: Follow these steps to charge each battery. 1. Attach the battery's white plastic connector to the charger's connector. Do not force the connectors together. They fit together only one way. 2. Plug the charger into a standard AC outlet. 3. Charge the battery for the length of time recommended by your battery charger's owner's manual. 4. When you finish charging the battery, unplug the charger from the AC outlet. Then, press down the latch lever and remove the battery from the charger. CAUTION: To prevent damage to the battery and charger, always unplug the charger from the AC outlet before you disconnect the battery. With fully charged batteries, you can usually print about 100 full pages of text in the draft mode. For extended operation, we recommend you buy and charge additional batteries. Charging Safety Hints: * Do not use the charger as a direct power source for any device. * Use only the recommended battery and a charger recommended for this type of battery. * Do not use the battery charger in wet or hot areas. * Use the battery charger in a well-ventilated area. The Charger and battery produce heat during charging. * When you disconnect a battery from the charger, grasp the connectors. Do not pull on the wires. * Do not charge a battery immediately after you use it to power the printer. First, let the battery cool. * Wait until the batteries' power is weak before you recharge them. Installing the Batteries: After you charge the two batteries, install them in the battery holder as follows: 1. Set the battery holder's power switch to OFF. 2. With its connector towards the center of the battery holder, place a battery between the clips that are nearer the power switch. Then, slide the battery toward the power switch. 3. Attach the battery's connector to Connector A.(directly in front of the battery connector). Do not force the connectors together. They fit together only one way. 4. Place another battery between the remaining clips. Then, connect the second battery to Connector B. (directly in front of the battery connector). 5. Set the AC power pack's power switch to OFF and unplug the AC power pack's power cord. CAUTION: Never install or remove the AC power pack while it is plugged into a power outlet. 6. Pull down the printer's power pack release so that the AC power pack pops out. Then, slide out the AC power pack. 7. Slide the battery holder into the printer. Be sure it clicks into place. Removing the Batteries: Follow these steps to remove the batteries. CAUTION: To prevent damage to the battery holder, be sure you remove the batteries in the order described. 1. Set the battery holder's power switch to OFF. 2. Press down the printer's power pack release so that the battery holder pops out. Then, slide out the holder. 3. Press down Connector B's latch lever and disconnect the battery. Then remove the battery. 4. Press down Connector A's latch and disconnect the battery. Then, slide the battery away from the power switch and remove it. Replacing the Fuse: If the printer's POWER indicator does not light when the batteries are fully charged and the battery holder's power switch is set to ON, check the battery holder's fuse. To check the fuse, remove the battery holder as described above. Then, lift the fuse holder and turn its cap counterclockwise to remove the fuse. If the fuse is blown, replace it with a 125 volt, 4 amp fuse. (dkh-07/27/93)
