LP 990 (260-2879) Selftest Faxback Doc. # 4675 You can print the following self tests to ensure that your printer is operating properly. The test printouts also provide helpful information. If you have printing problems, you might want to disconnect the printer from the computer before you print the self tests. This lets you verify that the problem is with the printer rather than with the computer, software, or the connection between the computer and printer. If you choose to disconnect the printer from the computer, first turn off the printer and unplug its power cord before you disconnect it from the computer. This section gives instructions for printing the self tests and describes each self test. PRINTING A SELF TEST Follow these steps to print a self test. 1. Turn the printer on. WARMING UP appears on the printer's display. Then, the ONLINE and READY indicators light and READY [LJ2] T appears on the display. After about 60 seconds, READY stops flashing on the display, and the printer is ready for use 2. When READY stops flashing on the display, press ONLINE so that the ON- LINE indicator turns off and READY appears on the display. 3. Select the desired self test as follows. * To print the Font List, press and release PRINT FONTS/TEST so that FONT PRINTOUT appears on the display. * To print Self Test 1, press and hold down PRINT FONTS/TEST until SELF TEST #1 appears on the display. * To print Self Test 2, press and hold down PRINT FONTS/TEST until SELF TEST #2 appears on the display. The DATA indicator lights and printing begins. When printing is complete, the DATA indicator turns off and READY appears on the display. Press CONTINUE/RESET so that READY [LJ2] T appears. FONT LIST The printout for this self test gives information about available fonts-- including fonts downloaded from software, fonts on installed font cards, and the printer's internal fonts. SELF TEST 1 The printout for Self Test 1 lists the current menu settings. It also shows additional information, including the life count for the printer (Machine), the OPC cartridge (Photo-conductor), and the developer cartridge (Developer). To help determine whether the printer requires maintenance, you can compare the current life counts to the life expectancy values given in "Specifications." For more information, see "Maintenance." SELF TEST 2 The printout for Self Test 2 is a full sheet of characters from the selected symbol set and font. (See "Menu Settings" for information about specifying the symbol set, font source, and font number.) (smm 07/27/93)
