Printer Cable Extender (260-2840) Installation Faxback Doc. # 4263 Additional required equipment: 25-foot extender-to printer cable (such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 26-0290) 6-foot or 12-foot computer-to-extender cable compatible with your computer and printer. Cautions: Choose an appropriate place for your extender. * Be sure the cables are not in the way of normal activities. * Be sure the computer-to-extender cable is no longer than 12 feet. * Be sure the extender-to-printer cable is no longer than 25 feet. Note: For reliable performance, do not exceed the above cable lengths. Before you make any connections, turn off your computer and printer equipment. Disconnect the power cords from the back of the computer and the printer. If the computer and printer are on, you might damage them while making connections. Before you make any connections, touch a well-grounded metal object to ground yourself and discharge any static buildup. Setting The TANDY/IBM Switch: Most printers manufactured and sold by Tandy before 1989 have a TANDY parallel port. These printers include: DMP 100/110/105/106/107/120/130/130A/132/133/200/300/400/420/430/440/442. DMP 500/2100/2100P/2102/2110/2120. LP-1000. TANDY Daisy wheel printers. The cable that would normally connect your printer and the CPU determines the selector switch setting. Set the switch to Tandy if you would normally use one of the following Tandy printer cables: 26-222 26-223 26-225 26-227 26-1401 26-4401 Most non-Tandy printers have an IBM printer port. Examples would be printers manufactured by IBM, Epson, and others. Set the switch to IBM if you would normally use one of the following printer cables: 26-288 26-289 Any IBM-compatible printer cable. Note: Match the printer cable to the type of printer that you are using. Using improper cabling can cause erratic printer operation and could damage your equipment. If you are unsure about which printer cable combination.to use, contact your local Radio Shack store for assistance. Connections: 1. Plug your printer cable into the computer as usual. Consult your computer owner's manual for instructions. 2. Plug the other end of the printer cable into the extender connector marked COMPUTER. Secure the connection using the extender's spring clips. 3. Plug the extender-to-printer cable into the extender connector marked PRINTER. Secure the connection using the extender's spring clips. 4. Plug the other end of the extender to printer cable into the printer. Secure the connection. Note: Be sure the extender is lying on a flat surface, and there is no tension on the cable connections. After making all other connections, reconnect the power cords to your equipment. (jlc-07/20/93)
