DMP 203 (26-2880) Adjusting the Print-Head Gap Faxback Doc. # 4160 The size of the gap between the print head and the paper determines the printing pressure, which affects the darkness and quality of the type. The print-head gap also determines how smoothly the paper feeds. Be sure the print-head gap is correctly set for the type of paper you are using, as described below: Standard, 20-pound: Position 3 (A mark shows this is the standard setting.) Most 2-Part Copies: Position 5 or 6 CAUTION: If you do not correctly set the gap between the print head and paper, you might damage the print head. When you begin using a different thickness of paper, run a self test and adjust the print-head gap until the print quality is good and the paper feeds normally. Notes: * If the print smudges, the paper jams or feeds abnormally, or the ribbon loosens or comes off the print head during printing, select a higher setting. * If the print is too light or characters or parts of characters are miss- ing, select a lower setting. Print-Head Protection: If the print head becomes too hot, printing automatically stops and the ON/OFF LINE indicator flashes. When the print head cools, printing automatically resumes and the ON/OFF LINE indicator stops flashing. (jej 04/25/94)
