LP 800 (260-2890) Print Density Faxback Doc. # 4109 Adjusting the Print Density: You can adjust the print density in five steps, from +2 to -2. The greater the value, the darker the printouts. The factory default setting is 0. The print density setting is retained in memory until you change it. Note: Increasing the print density increases toner usage. Follow these steps to adjust the print density. 1. While you hold down ON LINE, turn on the laser printer. The printer displays DENSITY = 0 and the current paper size setting (LTR, for example). 2. Press UP ARROW or DOWN ARROW until the density number you want appears on the display. 3. Press SET to set the print density. 4. If the paper size setting differs from the paper size loaded in the multipaper cassette, press FUNCTION until the correct paper size appears on the display. 5. Press PRINT FONT/TEST to start a test print. If necessary, repeat Steps 2 and 3. 6. Press RESET to exit the density adjust mode. Edge Enhancement Technology Edge Enhancement Technology (EET) improves the print quality of charac- ters and graphics by "edge smoothing" the high-grade edge of the printed image. This process lets you get near 600 dpi (dots per inch) print quality with your 300 dpi printer. The EET function has four settings: dark, medium, light, and off. Experiment with the different settings to find the best option for your needs. This function is in the main directory menu. You can see the effects of the different settings by sample printing the pie chart scalable font in the printer self test. Note: When using EET, we recommend that you readjust the density control to produce the best print quality. After the printer has printed about 7,000 sheets, change the EET setting to medium or dark if you notice a reduction in print density. Return the setting to light when you install a new drum.
