OPERATION TIPS Keep the following tips in mind as you use your new SmartDrive: Before the SmartDrive is installed and initialized, ROM is designated as Drive C. Once the SmartDrive is initialized, ROM is designated as Drive D and the SmartDrive is designated as Drives C and E. Once you initialize your SmartDrive, you can copy programs and files to it. You do not need to format the drive in any other way. Refer to MS-DOS and application documentation for information on copying programs and files from diskette to the hard disk drive. Some programs have automatic installation commands. Others require you to use MS-DOS commands to install them on the hard disk drive. Do not use commands to park the drive heads when you need to move your computer. The drive heads are secured automatically when you turn off the computer. SPECIAL NOTE: If Auto Install does not operate properly or runs for an excessively long time, first check for proper hardware installation. If the hardware is installed properly, you may use the Alternate Install Procedure (FDISK). If you continue to encounter problems, or wish to use only the Auto Install program, have the drive sent to a Tandy Service Center to be re-factorized, which also re-copies the Auto Install program back to the hard drive.
