PC Sound System Plus (250-1701) Sound Tracks Faxback Doc. # 2665 Sound Tracks is a program known as a Terminate and Stay Resident (TSR*) program. It is called this because when you exit the program, it stays in the computers memory. You can quickly run it again by pressing the TSR's hot key sequence (in this case, ALT = /), even when you are running another program. TSR* programs do not work while you run some programs. When this happens, the TSR* program might run erratically. Note that Sound Tracks can run only under DOS, not under Windows. LOADING SOUND TRACKS INTO MEMORY: These instructions assume you installed the Sound Tracks utility, following the procedure in "Installing the Sound Board Utilities." Before you activate Sound Tracks, you must first load it into memory. To do so, change to the \SP2\STRACKS subdirectory on your hard disk, and type: SONG ENTER If the program successfully loads into memory, the following message appears: Sound Tracks TSR* is loaded. Press [Alt]+[/] keys simultaneously to activate TSR*. Type "Song\Q to remove TSR* from memory. ACTIVATING SOUND TRACKS: Once loaded, you can activate Sound Tracks by simply pressing [Alt]+ [/] Sound Tracks' main menu appears. UNLOADING SOUND TRACKS FROM MEMORY: Do not unload Sound Tracks from memory (SONG/Q) when you are running a program's DOS shell option. If you do this, Sound Tracks is not removed from memory, and you received an error message. To effectively remove Sound Tracks from memory, first exist from your application. To remove Sound Tracks from memory, at the DOS prompt, type: SONG/Q ENTER You can only run the SONG/Q command from the drive/directory where the program SONG.EXE is stored. If you have other TSR* programs loaded into memory after Sound Tracks, the software configuration used by these programs might conflict. Thus, Sound Tracks might not be effectively removed from memory. You should always remove TSR* programs from memory in the reverse order they are loaded. If you do not, the following message appears: ERROR: Sound Tracks is not the last TSR* loaded. Please unload all TSR* programs loaded after Sound Tracks. SELECTING/PLAYING SONGS: Use the left cursor key or right cursor key to page through Sound Track's song list. To play a listed song, press the number key that corresponds to the number next to the desired song title. Next, select the Play command by pressing P. The song plays. Sound Tracks also lets you play several songs in a row. To include a sound in the play list, press the song number. Then press L (Select Command). PAUSING/CONTINUING PLAY: If you want to stop playing the current song and skip to the next song in the playback selection list, press N (Next Command). You can pause play by pressing U (Pause Command). To resume play, press C (Continue Command). Stop play be pressing S (Stop Command). After stopping, if you want to play in the current playback selection, press M (Memory Command). TEMPORARILY DEACTIVATING SOUND TRACKS: You can deactivate Sound Tracks by pressing Q or ESC. Sound Tracks clears, letting you return to your foreground application software. Although Sound Tracks is deactivated, it is still resident in memory.
