The Power program temporarily overrides the Setup program's power-management
parameters. However, the changes you make using this program are not stored
in memory. When you restart the computer, it returns to the parameters you
stored using the Setup program.

The Power program lets you:

* Enable and disable the Power Management
* Enable and disable the Serial Ports
* Enable and disable the Resume Mode
* Set the Display Timeout
* Set the Hard Disk Timeout
* Enable and disable the Standby Mode Timeout
* Set the Suspend Mode Timeout

Running the Power Program in DOS:

1. Exit from DeskMate (or any other program).
2. If you are not in Drive C, type: c: <ENTER>.
3. Select the DOS directory by typing: cd dos <ENTER>.
4. At the prompt, type: power282 <ENTER> The program screen appears.
   Use the up and down arrows to select the parameter you want to change.
   Then, press the left and right arrows to select the setting for the
   parameter.
5. Press <F1> to save your changes. If you do not want to save changes,
   press <ESC>.

Using Key Combinations:

Your computer has certain key combinations, using the keys labeled in blue
on the keyboard, that let you quickly change some of the computer's
functions and can help you save power as you use the computer. These key
combinations override the Setup program and the Power program parameters.

* FN + F1 (Reverse):
  Use this key combination to vary the contrast of characters and the
  background. Select the setting that best suits your needs.
* FN + F2 (Video):
  This key combination lets you switch between the computer's display and an
  external VGA monitor. You can not use both displays at the same time.
* FN + F3 (Speed):
  Use this key combination to select the computer's speed (16 or 8 MHz). The
  POWER indicator lights orange when you select 8 MHz.
* FN + F4 (Disk):
  Use this key combination to make the hard disk controller turn off until
  accessed. No special keystrokes or commands are needed to turn on the disk
  controller again.
* FN + F5 (Spkr):
  This key combination enables and disables the speaker.
* FN + F7 (Display):
  Press this key combination to turn off the backlight and the LCD. Press
  any key to turn the backlight and LCD back on. You cannot use this key
  combination to turn off an external video display.
* FN + F8 (Serial):
  This key combination enables and disables the serial ports.
* FN + F10 (Standby):
  This key combination puts the computer is a standby mode. The hard disk,
  LCD backlight, and floppy disk controller are turned off until you press a
  key.
