I read your getting started memory article and think it is well presented for the novice (Jan/ Feb 1992, page 35). However, the shutdown function does not work as you have described. In OFF mode the HP is truly shutdown, not simply powered down. The program parameters and data segments are saved to RAM and the CPU is shut off. Upon turning on the data is restored as the applications are activated.
